A MURDER IN KYIV

The horrific killing of the investigative journalist Georgi Gongadze touched off protests in the streets of Kyiv that spiraled into the Orange Revolution. Many suspected then-President Leonid Kuchma gave the orders to kill Gongadze. Months after his disappearance, Gongadze’s body was found in a shallow grave in a forest 80 miles south of Kyiv. It was badly decomposed, burned and beheaded. What happened to Gongadze that night remained buried for years, but as political pressure mounted to dig up the secrets of the old regime this film set out to get answers and paint a picture of a changing Ukraine, a country at the beginning of a new conflict with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The flim A MURDER IN KYIV aired on PBS Fontline.
