UP NEXT ON TRUTH AND POWER! Cell phone surveillance device, the Stingray

In tonight’s episode of TRUTH AND POWER we tell the story of Daniel Rigmaiden, a convicted felon turned whistleblower who discovered a secret government technology that can intercept cell phone communications. It was the first time the general public made aware of the “Stingray” and sparked a public debate over the collection of unsuspecting American’s private information.

In LUMINANT’s second episode of TRUTH AND POWER we examine the lucrative and growing business of government-sponsored spyware through the eyes of two young Moroccan activists and the team of innovative hackers who uncovered the source of their online surveillance.

We are very excited to announce the series premiere of our investigative documentary series for Participant Media’s cable television channel Pivot. The series explores people fighting back against abuses of power and tonight’s premiere starts with Black Lives Matter. We explore the beginnings of the social justice movement and how technology has been used to surveil and track them. We are very proud to be presenting the series, and have some provocative and powerful stories coming up in the next 9 weeks!

WATCH: The “Truth and Power” Trailer

The stories of ordinary people who take establishment Goliaths will hit the small screen this January with the debut of our new ten-part docuseries “Truth and Power.” The project is a collaboration of Luminant Media, Participant-owned Pivot and Oscar-nominated actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, who will narrate the series. “I am excited to work with Brian and Pivot on an important series that uncovers how far some of our most powerful institutions will go to suppress our civil liberties,” said Gyllenhaal. “Privacy and free expression are foundations of democracy and they are being eroded by governments and private businesses around the globe.” We couldn’t agree more.

“Truth and Power” will air on January 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Pivot. Watch the trailer here:
